Chronometer-Rating Notice.—At' 1 p.m. to-day a galvanometer signal for rating chronometers will be sent from the Observatory to tho Public Telegraph Office and to the Dominion Museum. Tho needle will move' at 1 p.m. exactly of Now Zealand standard mean time, when a chronometer set to Greenwich mean tims should show 13 hours 30min. Any difference will bo the error of the chronometer on Greenwich mean time. At ? ;.in. correct time will also bo signalled from tho Observatory by moans o( electric lights. A green light will be switched on at about ?.45 p.m., a red ono at about 8.55 p.m., and a white ono at about 8.59 p.m., and all lights will bo switched off at 9 p.m. exactly of Now Zealand standard mean time. Tho preparatory switching oil of tho lights must bo considered as only approximately correct, and must not be used for rating chronometers.
