THE TURF.
HUTT VALLEY TROTS. ERECT FORM WINS THE BIG RACE. SUCCESSFUL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Trotting Club was held on the Petone Recreation Ground yesterday before a capital attendance, those present including Messrs. E. Pannell and W. G. Garrard (representatives of the New Zealand Trotting Association), aiid Messrs. Simes and Whiteman (representatives of the Canterbury Owners' "nd Trainers' Association). , Light rain was falling just beforo th.e, first event came ■up for decision, but the weather.subsequently cleared, and remained fine, for the balance of the afternoon. .
Good fields were the order, and some of the events gave rise to. very interesting finishes. The principal ovent was won by one of the southern candidates, Erect Form, while the Ladies' Bracelet resulted in a very popular victory for the local trotter, Bobalink, with The Bann second. The trophies attached to this event wero afterwards presented by the club's presidont (Mr. A. M. Samuel). Speculation was brjsk throughout the day, but the totalisator arrangements wero not adequate to cope with the increased returns, and a largo amount of money was shut out before several races. The total investments for the day amounted to £6860, as compared with last year's total of £5150.
Three meetings of stewards were held in connection with the racing. The, iirst was to call upon A. Godfrey (rider of Pukio in the first race)' to explain why his mount collided wjth Winnie Peg's sulky just past the judge's box. Tho explanation was considered satisfactory. A. E. Adams (rider of Alexandra Park in the second, race} was cautioned for ciittitig-in too sharply on another candidate, and L.\ Wadham (rider of Princess Bruce in .the big race) was cautioned boring. Erect Form and Princess Brue were always prominent, and an interesting finish resulted in Erect Form winning by two lengths from Princess Bruce, who was two lengths ahead of Penelope. Kuu Kell held a big lead until entering the last- lap. Childstonc, after overhauling him, broke and lost ground, but quickly settled down again. A great finish then took place, Childstonc just getting up, in time .to win by a neck from Kuu Kell, who was three lengths in front of Ding Dong. Todd Bolls was fourth. Time,'3min. 56sec.
