STRANGLED IN A TRAIN
THE STARCHFIELD MYSTERY. SENSATION AT THE INQUEST. By Tcleffraph—Press Association-ConyriEhl London, January 22. A sensation was caused at the inquest 011 tho boy Starclifield (found strangled in a railway carriago sonio time ago), a woman positively identifying the hoy's father as the man whom she saw leading a boy by tlio hand near Camden Town Station. The father interjected: "It's a lie!" A signalman rjjavo evidence that lie saw a man kneeling dver a child in tlio train on the afternoon the murder was committed. He identified Starclifield as the child. The engine-driver stated that lie saw a man apparently tying a parcel iti tho compartment whero the body was found. The medical cvidenco was to tho effect that tho child was probably strangled in a kneeling position. Several witnesses gave evidenco that Starohfield's father was in bed i>t his lodgings oil tlio afternoon of the murder. Their evidenca conflicted concerning details. The inquest was adjourned to obtain further cvidenco of the father's movements. Slarchfield's soven-yonr-old son wafl found strangled under Hi<? seat of a railway carriage .at Shomlitoli. Starclifield, whs is living arart from his wife, was arrested, hut. it v/as reported, satisfactorily accounted for his movements, and was released.
