Tho Council of tho Royal Himwno Society met to-day and considered the following eases: — The ease of George Tasnian DaWson, aged 49, for rescuing ton employees from death at. Oolac Bay ou October 20,1913. On Monday, October 20, 1913, at 3 p.m., Dawson was conveying logs from the bush to Mr. Mtisscy's sawmills at Col,reBay by means of a locomotive and trollies when one of the bridges collapsed. The locomotivc and trollies went down into the gully, a height of 30 feet. Dawson fell amongst the, debris and wreckage, his right arm being tern out of_ the socket, his right hip being badly injured, and both logs and hand scalded. This rendered him uuconscious. After gaining consciousness ho dragged himself up the steep side of a gully, over the logs, etc., in order to save tho lives of other bushmen who he knew would soon bo following on their jippprs. He managed to place an Bin. by Sin. piece of and wood on the rail to warn them of danger, and then became unconscious again. When tho bushmen arrived some time later he was still_ dazed and in a seini-coiisiious condition. A rough stretcher was constructed 1 , and Dawson was convoyed home, a distance of three miles. Tho award made was the Stead gold medal, the high»st award granted. Case of Eric H. Bators'iiH (5.6), for rescuing Norman Ryan (14) from drowning at Waipawa., Haivkc's Bay, oft September 13, 1913. Case of Frederick Harry- Esrl, A.B. on the-steamer ludrabarah. Earl attempted to swim with a line attached to his body with the object of establishing communication with the shore- for tho purpose of passing the crew of tho stranded steamer on shore. The weather was very stormy at the time, and the attempt was made under very dangerous conditions. He swam out towards tho shore and made vigorous attempts to reach it. but was prevented from doing SO by tho heavy breakers and strong tide. He struggled on until -exhausted, and was then rescued with great, difficulty by W. A. Adcock, second officer. A bronze medal was granted. Case of Jeiis Marius Mntheson (19) and William G, Beckett (20)-for rescuing Mrs, ICeywortli (50) and Dorothy Keyvvorth (11) from drowning at Hikapu Beach, Pelonis Sound, on October 19, 1913. A bronze modal was granted to each.
