The cxtendedjmportance of the dairying industry is again'exemplified by tho fact that the-steamer Zealandie, which leaves Auckland for .London .direct tomorrow evening, is loading a large quantity of dairy, produce. The consignment consists, of sonic 20,800 boxes of butter.-;.. New.Zealand butter is'quoted at 116s. to 118s. per cwt. on,the London market, and taking 117s.as the average valiiej the Zealaiidic's butter cargo" is worth. £55J120, f.o.b.' Auckland. The export of butter from the province this season shows 'a great advance over that of,the previous season. Including the Zealahciic's cargo, the number of boxes exported, during tho present season is 278,716,..as compared with 23ff,665 for the' same, period of last season, an increase, of .39,051 boxes, or a little over 16j>or cent. In the following table details of the export of butter for this season, and' the same period last season are given:—
There, therefore, has been a falling-off in the butter shipments to London this season, in comparison with last, but this is being easily compensated for by the great trade with. Vancouver.
In addition to her cargo of butter, the Zealandie is taking 2600 crates of cheose, bringing the total export this season to London to 8234 crates, which shows the'satisfactory increase of 4954 crates over the same period of last year.
The Rata Dairy Company on Tuesday paid £4oOD to suppliers of butter-fat, .trliich-is the.largest payment yet made by the company. An exceptionally fine pen of 41 lambs, the property of Mr. Jno.
