A NEW STAMPING MACHINE

At the Grand Hotel on Monday, MrD. MacLeod, of Messrs. MacLeod and Jl'Nab, engineers, Melbourne, and M. and 31. Machines, Limited, of the same city, gave a demonstration of one of the new stamping machines, of which his firm are the sole 'inventors and patent<ks. The machine"exhibited, which in new to Now Zealand, is a "stamp-affix-ing" niachiiie,"'intemled for use in offices, and all other places where stamps aro used. .Unlike tho "franking" machine, it uses tho ordinary adhesive postage stamps. Besides affixing the stamps firmly to the envelope, the machine automatically registers . each stamp as used 1 , and, it. is claimed, is proof against petty theft, and provides an efficient check on the stamp account. Tho Commonwealth postal authorities have already on sale throughout Australia postage stamps in tho special form of "rolls," to fit those machines, and the New Zealand Postal Department has now also ordered from Messrs.'
