PETONE COURT.
A sitting of the Pctono Police Court was held yesterday, Messrs. Piper and Mothes, J.P.'s, being on the Bench. George Hart was fined _10s., v.-ith Court costs 75., for insobriety. The justices took a lenient view of the charges against Thomas James, one of which was using threatening bchnviour in a public place, and tho other one of trespassing on tho railway lino. Accused was convicted and orderd to pay 13s. costs on tho first charge, and was fined 10s. and 7s. costs on tho second. Thomas Scanbury was i convicted' and discharged for using insulting language in a public place. A case arose out of a collision on Boxing Day between n motorcycle and a bus. Gco. Cook was charged with riding a motor-cycle on tho wrong side, of tho road. Mr. Peacock nppoared for Cook, who stnted that ho was Tiding behind « brake conveying picnickers, and collided with the* bits as ho attempted to pass tho brake, which vrna coming in the opposite direction. Hβ contended that ho was not on tho vetoiir sido of tlio road. After several witnesses hnd. given cvi(l(uice,";',t])6"Bench decided that'there waV'nil"'•uriwrtninty; regarding tlio brako, and defendant was fined ~>s., with Court costs 7s. _ For a like offence John Stewart was similarly denlt with. ■ ■ ■ ' For furiously ridihec a horse along the bench a youth, who pleaded ignoranceof the !>v-laws as an excuse, was fined os.. with costs 7s. Tho clerk mentioned that several complaints had been made regarding this practice.
