HEAVY CLAIM SETTLED.
J. J. CRAIG V. AUCKLAND CITY. (Br Tilerriph.—Preji Aejoelatlon.! Auckland, January 16. A claim of considorablo importanco to tlie city was settled this morning, when the Mayor (Mr. Parr)' held a conference with Mr. J. J. Craig, whoso claim for approximately £124,000 in respect of lands taken for purposes of the new electricity power station, and for interference- with business in the neighbourhood of King's AVharf was recently adjourned to the February sessions of the Supreme Court. A sottlcment has been reached which was satisfactory to both parties. Mr. Craig mot tho committee in a fair spirit, and, by tho reduction of a considerable number of itoma, rondered tho settlement possible.
AeknowleHgment is made in last night's "Gazette" of the receipt by the Treasury of three eums of conscience monoy from unknown persons, the amounts being £4, 4s. 6d., and 25., respectively.
