At tho conference between, the Shipowners' Association and the Waterside Workers' Federation, the former refused the demand for increased wages, claiming that tho Federation's new log was too extravagant to be entertained. _ There is no indication of the Federation's next move, Mr. Huglies refusing to cite the emploj-ers before the Arbitration Court. A COMPULSORY CONFERENCE. (Roc. January 16, 11.10 p.m.) Melbourne, January 16. Mi. Justice Higgins lias convened a compulsory conference of shipowners and waterside workers in regard to their dispute.
