The Early Settlers'- -Association is sparing n<, pains to make th<s Anniversary Day celebrations at Newtown Park an unqualified success. An old-time sports- programme frill includesuch items as bobbing for apples, eating this treadey bun, grinning through o horse-collar, veterans' races, pillow fighting oil pole, and catching the greasy pic, events which afforded our pioneers so much amusement in the Anniversary gay sports on Tβ Are Flat in the early forties. In addition to the sports, there will ho games, and races for the children, Highland dhncing, fortune telling, Punch and Judy show, mid a baby show for babies tinder six months and under one year. The tea kiosk will bo under the charge- ef Mrs. J. P. Luke, Mrs, Rwhvard will have chargo of the Social. Committee, whose duty it is to took after the old folks, and Mrs. W. A. Edwards will run a soft drinks and fruit stall. A small cliargo of sixpence is being inade, and any surplus that may result is to be put towards a fund for erecting at Potone a memorial to commonsorato the landing of tho first pioneers in J. 840, A final meeting of tho oommittce will bo held in the Town Hall oil Monday eveiiinp, and Anyone willing to assist is cordially invited to attend..
