E\ TENSION DUPLICATION
Inquiry was made- yesterday of the General "Manager of Railways (Mr. E. H. Hiley) by a Dominion reporter as to whether it was'tlic intention -of the Department to proceed with the duplication of the lino bevond Lower Hutt. Mr. Hiley stated that the Department we're- at tho present time tipping earth (from the Ngahauranga slip) between Lower Hutt and Belmont, with the object, of course, of laying a double track there, and he intended, as opportunity offered, to continue the- duplication _ss far as Upper Hutt, with tho exception of a section of single lino at the- bridge over the Hutt River by Silvcrstream. Mr. Hiley stated that lie could not indicate when any portion of tho duplication will bo ready.
