SOME OF THE FESTIVITIES. (By Teksraph.-Prces Association.) , Hokitika, January 10. The weather continues glorious for the Jubilee' Celebrations, and all the functions are passing off most successfully. The jubilee ball brought together a great crush. Sir Josoph and Lady Ward and Mrs. Scddon were among those present, and prior to their departure a flashlight photograph was taken. To-day two long trains left for Ross, where a day's festivities v.-ero arranged for. Tho excursionists returned to Hokitika for a fireworks display at night. The Hon. W. Fraser left for the north yesterday afternoon, and proceeded to Christchurch to-day. Sir Joseph and Lady Ward left at midnight, en route for AVestport, where. Sir Joseph unveils the Seddon Memorial clock. He returns to Greymouth on Monday. His Excellency thoGovernor had a successful evening's trout fishing in-the Hokitika River last night. To-day ho visited tho hospital and public institutions, and left at 1 p.m. for ' Greymouth. Mr. Seddon, M.P., lias accompanied the Governor's party throughout, and, along with Mrs. Seddon, has been attending the pioneers' functions. Some memorable groups of pioneers have been photographed. The visiting groups of pioneers are delighted with tho trip and their treatment, and aro loud in their praise of tho hospitality provided. The performances of tho opera, "Lcs Cloches do Corneville," by Hokitika'amateurs— tho opera ran for six nights—gives a substantial surplus to tho jubilee funds. Tho performance was organised by Mrs. Staveley, who has been highly praised for the surprising success achieved. The whole week has been a memorable timo for town and district. Visiting Parliamentarians are all delighted with tho prospects ahead of Wcstland. Mr. G. W. Russell, M.P., stroke enthusiastically about tho future"of Wcstland, his remarks being supportcd.by Mr. Malcolm, M.P. ' L . ~. Replying to a county deputation yesterday, the Minister of Public Works said he intended to push on the completion of the Otira Tunnel a3 quickly as ho could.
