RIFLE SHOOTING.

IN FULL SWING AGAIN.

SOME EXCELLENT SHOOTING. Tho holiday season over, shooting was again in full swing on Saturday, at Trcntham and Miramar. Only tho rifle clubs participated, as tho Territorials have not yet received their rifles, which wore recalled owing to the strike. I However, it is expected that by next week thesci will bo again distributed, and then a further impetus will bo given to tho shooting classes. Tho Karori Club fired tho fourth match of its first series at Trcntham under favourable conditions, although at times a light rear "lish-tail" was rather puzzling. Tho ranges fired wero 300 and COO yards. Tho feature of the day's shoot was tho magnificent performance of Rifleman W. Chirnside, who put up tho wonderful sooro of 98 out of a possible 100, this being a record for Trcntham at this distance. Tho total included a posaiblo at 600 yards. His first four shots at 800 yards word bull's, tho following two 4's, finishing with four more bulb. As ho commenced at 600 yards with n. bull and finished with a possible, he wound up with 14 consecutive bull's-eyes. Tho next best scores were those of Riflemen ,J. Burns and H. V. Croxtou who each finished with 90. Next Saturday will conclude tho first series at ranges 900 and 1000 yards. Tho Old N'nvnls Club concluded their first series of trophy shooting on their Miramar rango for trophies presented bv Captain A. S. Biss, Captain A. G. Hume, and a club trophy. The weather conditions wero good, although a strong mirago somewhat troubled competitors. Tho conditions wero seven shots at each of 300, 500, and 600 yards. Tho three trophies for this series wero won respectively by F. E. Franklyn.'T. Bell and R.'C. Collins. Tho. Suburbs Club visited' Trcntham on Wednesday and Saturday for longrango shooting,.at ranges 900 and 1000 yards; ton shots at each range. Tho weather was not too good for longrango shooting. Next Wednesday and Saturday tho club will firo thoir second match in tho third series at ranges 300, 500, and 600 yards, at Miramar. On January 22 tho club will fire their annual ''Daily Mail" competition at Trcntham, at ranges 300, 500, 600, 800, 900, and 1000 yards; seven shots at each range. Twenty-two trophies have been allotted for the field-day competition. On January 24 the club will fire their annual match against the Karori Riflo Ghib, each club being represented by two teams, of -ten men asido; ranges 300, 500, and 600 yards, seven-shot match. Tho Highland Riflo Club fired the second match of the third series at Trcntham, seven shots at 900 and.looo yards. Tho prevailing wind proved rather tricky, but some good shooting was done, especially by Rifleman Hayes, who scored 32 at 1000 yardsi Messrs.
