MAKARA AFFAIRS.

MEETING OF COUNTY COUNCIL. Councillor T. H. Eastwood presided at a meeting of tho Maksra County Council which was held yesterday moniing, and tho following were aiso present Councillors G. Monk, J. Monaghan, K. T. Sloore, H. A. Taylor, and J. 11. Haggerty. It was decided to raise the dog tax to 2s. Gd. per head, and to offer the ranger the position of colkctor. Accounts amounting to £116 9s. 4d. were passed for payment. A motion by the chairman to tho effect that steps bo taken to form a separate riding for the Ngahauranga district, to include that portion of tho country lying between the Onslow Borough, Johnsonyille, and Harbour sections 13 to 19, was submitted. ' In moving tho motion the chairman explained that traffic on tho roads in that particular portion of the county was considerably heavier than in other portions. 'If the division was mado the rate, for road maintenance in that area, would bo increased without unfairly affecting the ratepayers in other parts of the county. The motion was lost.
