Bi LYTTELTON AGREEMENT. "' (Bt Telegrajli.—Press AjßoaliitJoiM - Christchurch, January 8. The latest development in connection with tho .Lyttelton watersiders is the announcement of tho registration of an industrial agreement between the employees and \Arbitrationists, This agreement, framed at' a conference on December 23, stated originally that no registration was intended as would'entait abandonment of .the'proposal to make a close corporation of tho new union. Insistence by tho Labour Department on tho opening of the union changed tho situation, '.t'ho new union met on Monday to remoyo restrictions on entrance, tho objection of the Department their being overcome. Tho agree* ment was registered the following morning, before the'influx of -ex-strikers commenced. _ It provides for the old condition's, with the' following addition to the usual preference clause:—"This clause shall operate only so long as tho union'shall not be'associated'in any way with any other industrial union or trade union or association of such' union or association of other'workers."' ■

The agreement shall'remain in force until June 30, 191(5, all shipping companies being parties to it. The clause makes is obligatory on the. union to have no relations with the Federation of Labour, Trades Council, or other waterside unions.' At Lyttelton this morning, a firemqn off tho "Westralia was fined £5 for assaulting Arbitratkmists, and £3 for using abusive' language on the same occasion.
Tlio Waitersidiers' Union now . contains 659 members. Three hundred and ninety-five arc working to-day. Practically all the strikers remaining in tho port arc now included.
