STRIKE AFTERMATH.
AUCKLAND LABOUR MARKET. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, January 7. Inquiry as to the position of the labour market in Auckland would seem to point to tlio aftermath of the strike being i'till here, as there arc quite sufficient men offering for the work available in the town and suburbs. In addition to this, it is known that a number of men temporarily out of employment have been told by their employers to stand by for a week or two. This has occurred in tlio painting and other trades during the past week. At tlio present time there is a good demand for labour in the country districts, as harvesting is in full swing, but then only men nre wanted who have a knowledge, of farm work. The demand for men to milk is also steady. As far as pick and shovel work is concerned there are several fairly big contracts to conic on shortly, including, tlio laying of sixteen miles of drainage pipes in the .Kpsoni district, and several smaller road jobs are to bo let in tho AVaitemata county'. At the same time the outlook for the labour market is none too good for tho now year in Auckland as far as town employment is concerned.
