RURAL WORKERS.
(By Telcffraph.-Spocial Correspondent.) Masterton, January 5. The meeting of farm labourers lield here, on Saturday Might was addressed by Mr. E. Kennedy, secretary of tlic Canterbury JFarm Labourers' tfnion, who pointed out that hitherto obstacles 'lind been placed iii the way of the formation of suck a. union by tho farmers' themselves. Tlieso obstacles, he. alleged, had now been overcome, inasmuch as tho farmers had shown themselves to be greatly in favour of the Arbitration Act and Arbitration •TJniqiis. It was resolved that a union ■bo formed under the Arbitration Act, to be called tho "Wellington '-Rural ■Workers' Industrial Union of Workers," to comprise"*" ploughmen, shepherds, drovers, musterers, . threshinghill hands, scrub-gutters, station and farm workers, milkers, fencers, bushmen, inbbiters, cooks, and , others connected with farm life. Mr. M. Laiacy was elected interim .secretary. A set of rules for the government of tho ■union was adopted. It was decided to call a,. special meeting for Tuesday evening, m accordance with the Act, to pass a resolution in favour of registration. lt:-is-understood to bo the intention of , tho.union, as soon as word has been received that tho same has :been registered, to proceed with a claim,for an award against tho employers iu'all partsof tho Wellington industrial (list-net.
