M'Girr got into double figures with his third hit, but then steady bowling nnd careful batting made play slow. Wagstaff livened things up for a few minutes, but then both batsmon relapsed into silence, maidens being tho order of things for somo time. Tlien Monaghan got M'Girr l.b.w. 161 —i)—28. Saunders was last man, and a lusty 4 to Wagstaff saw a fo}low-on 6aved, but MonagTian finished the innings by. catching Wagstaff off his own bowling. Tho innings had lasted 2 , hours .40 minutes. Canterbury opened their second innings with Hayes and Woods to tho bowling of Saunders, who opened from tho south end, and M'Girr.
