Mr. Matthews, secretary of the Transvaal Miners' Association, stated that tho situation in Natal was serious, as the Witwatcrsrand miners intended to support the Natal demand for 18s. a day and time and a-half overtime; also the reinstatement of the four dismissed men, STRIKE BREAKERS. (Rec. January 2, 11.15 p.m.) Pretoria, January 2. Delegates at a conference of the" South African Labour party condemned the Government's payment of £47,000 to the 6triko breakers at Kleinfontein— where tho July riots originated. Tho men havo demanded legislation making tho introduction of strike breakers into tho area affected by an industrial dispute a criminal offence; also legislation tor an annual fortnight's holiday for underground and . other mine workers. NORTHUMBERLAND COLLIERIES. RENT ALLOWANCE FOR MINERS. London, January 1. The Northumberland miners, by a two-to-one majority, havo decided to ask 3s. a week rent allowance for miners not living in colliery houses. Tho demand is refused, and the men will take a ballot on the subejet of a strike.
