Tho animal sports meeting in connection/rith tho Wairarapa Caledonian Society was held here to-day in magnificent weather, and with an attendance of about, 6000 people. Tho attraction of tho gathering was tho presence of the American athletes. Disappointment was folt that,'owing to an injury sustained at Wellington, Parker was unablo to compote in the short events. It. 1?. Templeton established Australasian records in' the running high jump and vaulting with the pole. _ Templeton was unfortunate in. falling in tho final of the 120 Yacds Hurdles. The Caledonian Society had a good programme and excellent competition for most events for the first day of the New Year sports. The weather was fine, but a hot nor'-wester was depressing. The attendance was near a record. In all 58 events were got off. The chief bicycle races were well contested. The principal one, the Caledonian Wfifeel Race, of one mile ailfl a Tialf, for prizes of £10, £3, and £1, attracted fourteen riders, and was won u"y F. V. Tozer (125 yds.) by half' a wheel from P. O'Sliea (scratch). Tho other cycling event, half-mile, resulted: —Henry (55yds.), 1; Tozer (15yds.), 2; Bonis (40yds.), 3. The mile resulted: Tozei' (85yds.), 1; Ji'Donald (70yds.), 2; Griffin (20yds.), 3. Two-milo scratch face: O'Sliea, 1; Gibson, 2. - Tho chief running events were: — Open 135 yds.
