Tho jury in tho case in which Hans Schmidt was charged with tho .murder of tho girl Amullcr (whoso body was found in the Hudson River) disagreed aftor a lengthy trial, and were discharged. A new trial has. been ordered.
Schmidt behaved like a maniac throughout tho trial, quarrelled with tho lawyers, and talked insultingly to tho jurymen. Ho gavo evidence on his own behalf, declaring that God had called upon him to commit the crimo. A plea of insanity was offered, but tho Commissioner refused to pronounce him insane.
