Some weeks ago the Sydney City Council appointed the Lord Mayor to make a special inquiry into tho alleged waste in the city services. Tho report, yhich has now been presented, states that thero is a largo amount of over-lapping and waste arising from the want of proper supervision and system. The Lord Mayor declares that there is an absolute necessity for. re-organisation throughout the whole of tho corporation service and makes numerous recommendations with that end in view. The Town Clerk, declares the Mayor, should be relieved of all detail work, _so that his timo should be made available for the duties of general manager of the council's affairs.
