GRAVE EGYPTIAN CRISIS.

AYERTED BY DISPLAY OF BRITISH FORCE. - ' SEDITION MONGERS AT WORK. KITCHENER SUMMONS THE FLEET. ! By Teleera-ph—Press AEsocic-tion-CotiyrteM, '•Timos'-'—Sydney "Sun" Special Cables, London, December 29. It is authoritatively stated that a grave Egyptian crisis was recently' averted by an overwhelming display of British force. Lord Kitchener, suspecting a semimonastic Moslem Order of improperly administering enormous trust funds, announced his intention of taking them over and administering thorn for their intended purposes. Moslem fanaticism was instantly aroused by the Nationalists, and tho Khedive aggravated the danger by joining tho reactionaries.

Iho British Government placed the circumstances before tho Sultan of Turkey, who decided in favour of I<ord Kitchcncr, issuing a Firman at Constantinople to that effect. Sedition-mongers in the meantime wero stirring up troublo, and Lord Kitchener, acting promptly, hurried the Mediterranean Fleet to Alexandria, landing 3000 sailors. It was announced officially that tho sailors were solely intended to visit the Pyramids. The troops were marched through tho streets of Cairo unarmed.

The relations between Lord Kitchener and tho Khedive were, seriously strained, although tlio trouble, apparently, has been permanently averted.

(Press Association.)

London, December 29. The newspapers, commenting on tho Hoot's sudden recall to Malta from tho manoeuvres on November 10, interpret it as an indication that its presence on the Egyptian coast was then considered growingly urgent; but tho announcement on November 11 that tho ships were to go to Egypt on November 19, tho original date, is interpreted that the crisis was then settled, tho Sultan's signature merely being deferred until November 20.
