Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Smith, Napier, who hovo been on a visit to Groat Britain, and the Continent, leave in January for _Sydney^and Melbourne, where they will stay for about a month before going on to New Zealand. Mr. Herbert Garrison, tf.fi.G.S., F.R.C.1., delivered his lecture on "Now Zealand—tho World's Wonderland," before the South London Literary and Dobating Society at Cambcrivell Green, on Tuesday.
Mr. Norman Ashton, Auckland, is leaving by tho Orient- liner Otranto on January 2. During tho next fortnight ho will visit Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Birmingham, and the Potteries. His present address is care T. C. Mossey, Esq., Alderle.v Edge, Cheshire.
The Hon. W. Pember Eeoves, director of the London School of Economics, gave the second of a series of lectures at the school on "Tho Trust and tho Trustee in the Past and in tho Present," on November 33. He took as his theme tho Public Trusteo and his office in Now Zealand.

Green, condemned i tho introduction of compulsory military servico in Australia ana Now Zealand, and spoke of tho behaviour of tho boys who Lad resisted it as "heroic, conduct.", Mrs. J. Duncan, tho Misses Duncan, and Mrs. J. M. Williamson, of Wanganui, who arrived via Canada and the States, are at present in London, and this week leave for I'aris. Thence tliev ivil! go io Italy, Germany, Spain, Algiers, and Egypt, returning to Great Britain and Ireland as soon as the s«ason is suitable for motoring. Mr. Francis A, Scanned, M.8., of Timaru, who has been for two Years in this country gaining further medical experience, expects to return to New Zealand early in the coining year, and will take up a practice there. Ho lias worked both at Loudon hospitals and thiiso of Edinburgh and Glasgow. At the former city he took iiio diploma ot P.R.C.S. Clayton Thome, of.Auckland, J who travelled here via Canada' and'tho' United States, was met at Chicago by his brother, Mr. A. Jlr. Crauleigli Barton, of Foikling, on Hi® way to England, visited Bombay, the Riviera, Italy, Switzerland, and France, and has sifico stayed in tho south and north of England, 110 ill" tends in tho spring to go to Holland and Belgium before returning to New Zealand next year. Mr. Barton has reeently passed his examination for the degree of LL.B.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Soagar, of Cliristchurch, wlio will ho two years in Europe, have returned to London after spending the summer in Scotland. They intend to make London their headquarters during the remainder of their stay, and will visit places of interest, in England and -on tho Continent early next year. Mr, Norman Asliton, of Auckland, and his sister, Miss Marjorie Ashton, arrived in May, and have spent som« time- motoring through Warwickshire, Wales, and the Lake District, and the Isle of Man. _ Among Mr. Ashton's English experiences has been a trip ill a Grahame White biplane at Hendon. H-e and Miss Ashton aro spending Christnias with relatives in Cheshire, and have booked their return by tho Orient S.S. Otranto on January 2. It is hoped that Mr. Cochrane, of Auckland, who lias been in a London nursing homo for four weeks, will be able to come out to-morrow. . His wife and daughter havo been staying at Bernors Hotel, and they will remain in London till January, when they sail for New Zealand by the Orient liner Osterloy. Mr. Cochrane was taken ill when visiting his native place, Jersey, soon after his arrival. On their return Sirs. Coclirano's nc-phew, Mr. F,ri<: Nolan, who has a station in the Waikato. and who w-as in England a couple of years ago, is to ho married to Miss Grieg, daughter of the Auckland malinger of th© Bank of New South Wales. It is related of the Duko of Welling- j toil, that once when ho remained to take the Sacrament at his parish j Church, a very poor old man went up the opposite side, and reaching the !
