CRUSHED BY A ROLLER.
EVIDENCE AT AiN INQUEST,
(By Telegraph.—Press 'Association.) Duncdln, December 29. , The adjourned inquest into the circumstances surrounding the - death of John MacLuckie, corporation employee, who was killed on Wednesday by being run over by a steam_ roller', was continued to-day. Tho inquest had been adjohniod for tho purpose of holding a post-mortenl examination. Dr. Roberts stated that ho found no indications which would point to tho deceased baring suffered from an affection, of tho heart or from giddiness. Tho lungs -were normal. James Glass stated that ho looked out . fromi his window when lie heard ffifi roller passing and saw MacLnckio midway between tho front and the rear wheels. Ho was evidently struggling to get clear of the rear wheels, and witness assumed that the front wheels had passed over him. The left-hand rear wheel then passed ever him. ' • The evidence of tho driver showed that it was difficult for him to see immediately in front of tho engine on tho left-hand, as the flywheel obstructed the driver's.vision. It was also stated that a ba" was on tho read whero tho deceased fell. Tho Coroner (Mr. C. C. Graham) said there could be very little doubt that the man was too close to tho engine. It was an error of judgment on his part. Ho must have slipped when too close to the engine: A verdict would be returned that deceased was killed through being crushed hy .the rolltfr, after having accidentally fallen under it._ No blame was attachablo to tho I driver of tho engine. .
