BOWLS

SUNSHINE AND WIND. " ' After a very doubtful morning, the weat'her broke fine towards Jioon on Saturday, bo-wiers au after-. noon's play. The fine, weather was attended by a high Jtor'-wesier, which continued to bluster throughout tho afternoon, spoiling many a, well-laid bowl. The puzzle with each shot was how mue'h green and strength to allow for (or against) tho wind. Ono shot'would probably run narrow with two yards of green, whilst the next shot would see three yards of green much too wide. Every bowl had to be laid down according to the continually changing conditions, and whilst these cailed for a good deal of skill, it also meant that luck was a potent factor iu more than ono game played on Saturday. The event of tho day was the senior pennant games, and of those most- interest centre! in tlio match between Wellington and Newtown —the latter having had no lessoj up to date, v hilst Wellington was one down. Newtown had tilings their own way. At the conclusion of the games Wellington was eleven down on tho Newtown green, and seven on their own green—a clear defeat by IS points. This win puts Newtown in the leading position, and points to that club as the winners of the pennants of 1913. The results of the pennant games were as follow: — ' , 1 , NEWTOWN V.
