G. Wallace and F. S. Wilding in" tho Men's Championship Singles. The match, however, was very ono-sidec?, arid resulted in an easy win for the Taranaki crack. Wallace played with deadly accuracy, and never gavo his opponent a chance. Wilding did not snow tho form ho displayed against Swanston, and was contantly worried by the clever volleying of Wallace who, tunc after time, worked him out of position, and secured aco after acs by fine volleys to tho far corner of tho court. W. Pearse, Tomuka, was defeated _ by Dr. M'Cutelieon, Auckland champion, after a very close and interesting match. . I'earao at one stags had two sets in. and led three lovo ill tho third, but tl» Auckland player wns playing excellent tennis, and towards the final quito outclassed Pearse. Fisher is still in tho singles, and meets Wallace in. tlio semi-final. Up to the present Fisher lias not been hard pressed, and has been . fortunate in meeting players ho found no difficulty in defeating.. Ho is fast getting his form, and should quite extend Wallace, who has never before been seen to such advantage in singlo play. Apart from these matches, tho play was rather dull, hut good contests should eventuate on Monday, when all tho events will be finished out to tlra finals, which will be completed on Tuesday.
