The steamer Ilford (4266 tons, British Steam Ship Company, under charter to load timber in South Australian pons for New Zealand), from Bnnbury _to Auckland, with a cargo of jarrah timber, put into port with hc-r bunker coal on fire

The fire was discovered on Wednesday when the steamer was 20Q miles south of Adelaide.

Tlio crew, working hard at the primps, managed to keep the outbreak in check. Several of the crew arc suffering severely in consequence of tlio fumes. Being unable to overcome the fire, it was decided to put in to Melbourne. The fire is still burning, and it will probably be necessary to completely flood the bunkers.

It is supposed the outbreak was caused by spontaneous combustion.
