WESTLAND JUBILEE. Hohltlka, December 23. Tho Westland Jubilee Celebration Committeo has been advised by tho goncral manager of tho IN.Z. railways .that in order to moot the wishes of those desirous of travelling, tickets at holiday excursion rates will bo isued to Hokitika up to January 0, aiul will bo available for return until February 13. Tho holiday time-table provides for passengers getting through from Christchurch to Hokitika in ono day. Ho hoped also that tho Department will provide extra services to copo with tho influx fOf tho jubilco celebrations.
CONSUMPTIVES' CLAIMS. Tiniaru, December 23.
Tho Timaru Hospital to-day appointed Drs. Paterson and Loughnan to attend a conferenco of all Hospital and Charitablo Aid in tho South Island north of tho Waitaki Itivor. Tho conference is to bo held at Christchurcli with a view to coming to soino arrangement whereby the claims of consumptives for admission to" tho Caslimero Sanatorium may bo satisfactorily dealt with.' COLD SNAP IN TIMARU. Timaru, December 22. To-day was tho first fine clear day sinco October 25. The sky is overcast agaiu to-night. Heavy" cold rains fell at the end of last week, especially in Fairlio district. A good deal of snow fell on tho ranges, and tho cold snap caused tho doath of numbers of freshlyshorn sheep. It is reported that 200 out of 2SO in one ilock died, and tho motherless lambs will probably follow.

Arrangements, hsvo been made through his Excellency, the Governor under which tlio-Royal Military Band will remain in Auckland until tho first week in March, instead of returning tho first week in February. . DWELLING DESTROYED. Clsbome, December 23. A seven-roomed house, occupied by Mr. E. C. Bolton, Makauri, was destroyed by firo this morning. 'Hie insurances wero £300 an the building, and £150 on tho furniture in tho Commercial Union Office. MOTOR THIEF'S RUSE. Auckland, December 23. The garage of W. Sou tor and Co. was entered on Friday night, and a. fivoseater Ford car was stolon and replaced by a two-seater, stolen from another garage.
