Mr. Lloyd-Georgo (Chancellor of th-e Exchequer), in a speech at Pwllheli (iii Wales), repudiated tlio idea that his land programme (enunciated recently) was merely a vote-catching device. For every 20s.- paid by tho farmer in'wages, declared, Mr. Lloyd-George, ho paid over 255. as rent. JJo (tho speaker) wanted fair play for all but tho Irndlord, who was jio more essential to agriculture than was a chain to a watch, and tiio Government's plan was to piaoo the parasitic interest last. The Tory alternative, lie continued, was to givo tlio taxpayer's money for tho landlords to build cottages in which tley could keep tha tenants under their thumbs. Referring to tho question of emigration from Britain, tho speaker said that tho life-blood of tho country districts was being gradually drained, and poured into tho veins of new lands overseas, whero labourers were better treated.
