The Governor's Message simply referred to the election of the Speaker and tho passing of Supply. Mr. R. Meagher, tho Labour caucus nominee, was tho 011)3* candidate for tho Speakership, and was duly elected. Beforo the meeting ef the House, the caucus discussed tho claims of ' Mr. Morton, tho ex-Speaker, Mr. M'Gowen, and Mr. Meagher for the Speakership. Tho caucus voting gavo Mr. Meagher a majority over tho combined votes for tho other two.
