Tho storm increased in fury as sho proceeded to Wanganui. and, with the slips behind her, sho had no other alternative but to push on the trip. Sho bad to encounter many hardships, and it serves to. show what, is constantly taking place in tho lives of teachers' in the "way-backs.'' At ono stream tlio water was running so strongly that to attempt to cross would simply *T)e to court disaster and probably death, so. with resourcefulness, she piifc the- horses to the stream, and she lierself got over with groat difficulty by swinging lierself over on the branches of willow trees. Regaining possession of tho horses on tlio other side of the stream she made tracks across country over the different stations, and eventually she ended her arduous and perilous journey by safely reaching AVangamii. Bcforo leaving Kakatihi Miss Maclean was presented by tlio settlers with a gold bangle and silver-backed brush and comb.
