Cardinal Rampoila was indisposed all day on Tuesday, but refused "to allow his secretary to pass the night ill his room. He grow worse Inter in the night, and a servant was hurriedly dispatched for a doctor. Cardinal Merry del Val -suggested postponing the- news of Cardinal Kampolla's death to the Pope until next day, fearing the shock to His Holiness. Despito precautions, however, tho Pops heard Cardinal Rampolla's namo coupled with remarks about liis indisposition. Tho Pope at first was unable to believe the Cardinal was dead, having seen him on Saturday, apparently in his usual state of health.
