CITIZENS' CARNIVAL.

THE GENERAL COMMITTEE MEET. 'A meeting of the Citizens' Carnival Committee was held at the Town Hall last evening the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presiding. . Sir. G. S. Hill forwarded his resignation as sep'retary of the Sports Committee, .being-, unable to carry en the position owing to pressure of work.— The resignation was referred to tho Sports Committee. .■■ • Tho secretary (Mr. H. Amos) reported that he had conferred with the heai masters of schools' regarding tho chil* dren's display,- but masters were im» willing to take tho matter up owing to tho limited time available to prepare the scholars. Mr. Amos had therefore suggested that,,' in place of that, . they might set a day aside for sports for all public schools in tho Wellington district, mid arrange for special trains to bring children and their parents to Wellington. >■■■;; Messrs. A,. Marryatt. and J. H. Pollock, as members of the Sports' Committoo and also of the Council of the N.Z.A.A.A., considered the suggestion an excellent one. Mr. Marryatt suggested that- tho secretary, and if possible, some of tho headmasters, might meet Mr. Peixotto, manager of the American athletic team, on tho occasion of tlio iatter's lecture at the Town Hall nest Tuesday. The .secretary promised to lie present at the lecture and said that ho would also endeavour to sccure the attendance of as many headmasters as possible.

It wns then resolved that tlio cliairinan of the Sports Committee (Mr. A. Mnrryatt) should net in touch with the headmasters of schools as early as possible to consider the question of a sports day for the schools during the carnival in the first week of Match, Mr. A. A. Pnapo reported that he had goiio exhaustively into the question or an axemen's carnival, and thought tnat such a fixture would be a great success and would lis the moans of bringitjs? a croat many peopks to the city. Iho expenso would not bo more than £40 or £50. He had supplied full particulars to the Sports Committee) and a recommendation would no doubt come from that quarter. Mr. C. G. Wilson and Mr. a. A. Paape were deputed to go intq the question of tho art union and bring forward a report. It was decided that the rules as printed should bo placed in. booklet form and bo distributed anions members. The Mayor and Mr. Pollock were appointed n sub-committee to flnallv pass certain accounts. $ ■,
