'i-.v Auckland, December 17 The New Zealand Hug by team returned by the Niagara, except Wylie, who lemained to study as a civil engineer at Stanford University. All the men are well, including Roberts, who was incapacitated in tiia early part of tlio tour by an injured leg, and Bruce, who has recovered from his poisoned leg. Tho team played sixteen matches, won all, scored 010 paints, and only six points were scored against them, Three of the six points were for a penalty goal._ In all the-games, only onco was t'ho New Zealand line crossed, and that was in tho sreond game against the University of California. Graham and 11. Roberts scored 60 [joints each, Graham kicked 24 goals in oO attempts, Lynch scored 16 tries, and M'Gregor and R. Roberts 15 each. The goalkicking on tho whole was poor, only 57 tries out of 156 being converted. Tho points scored uy individual players were:—Graham, C-6,; R. Roberts, G6; Stohr, 54; Lynch, 50: Mitchinson, 46; M'Gregor, -15; M'Kenzie, SO; M'Donald, 35; Murray, 33; Cuthill, 31; Douglas, 21; Lovcndge, 20; Wylie, 18; Downing, IS; E. Roberts, 18; Taylor, 15; Cain, 12; Gray, 9; Sellars, 6; Dewar, 3; Bruce, 3; Williams, 3; Atkinson, 3. Tho forwards wero the mainstay of tho team. Tlio tour is described as having been most enjoyable. An official welcome was extended to the team during the forenoon. Mr. M. J Sheahan (chairman of tho Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby Union) presided. Tho Mayor (Mr. C. J. Parr) extended a- welcomo on bshalf'of the citizens, ami congratulated the team 011 its splendid record. Ho felt sure that tours such as tho one just concluded did a great amount of good for tho Dominion, and ho thought that if representations were made to the Tourist Department a vote/ of, say, £1001) might bo forthcoming towards the expenses of the tour. (Laughter and applause.) The chairman also spoke, making reference to tho team's record. Mr. G. Mason, manager of the team.' thanked the Ma3 - or for his words of welcome. _ 111 the course of an interesting description of football methods in America, Mr. Mason remarked, that- the difference in tho merits, of the teams was not so great as the overwhelming scores would suggest. Tho standard of collaring in America was very high, and frequently ten or fifteen minutes had elapsed before tho New Zealanders had been able to get on the attacking side. Furthermore, tho American footballers 1 wero apt pupils, . and, oven 111 tlio short spaco of the tour, great improvements had been noticed. ».• The captain (Mr. A, M'Donald) endorsed what tho manager had said, and remarked that American football, if properly directed, would prove a forco to reckon with in the future.
