UPPER HUTT TOWN BOARD.

«• The Upper Hutt Town Board hold a meeting! on Monday evening, tnose present being: "Commissioners Ji. H. Webb (chairman), H. V. Uengo, N. J. Bennington, T. Edwards, l<\ W. Kemp, A. J. M'Curdy, and P. Kobertson. Tlio board's solicitors wrote, saying the l'ublic Trustee compromised in the matter of an extra casement to the. waterworks site to the extent of reducing; Ills claim from £50 to £25'. It was resolved to make a final offer of £15, otherwise the board would not proceed further in that direction—tho existing rights of access being all that wore actually essential—though the additional access might bo a little more convenient to future contractors. The waterworks engineer's explanation relative- to £-19 extras on a £437 pipe bridge contract was received, and caused some discussion, tho explanation being ultimately "received," and the. amounts ordered to bo paid. Commissioner M'Curdy stated that tho contract for the pipe bridge had never been signed by the contractors, tho board's solicitors having admitted that such was the case. ■ The engineer's final certificate for payment and return of contractor's deposit, however, had been issued. On Commissioner M'Ciirdy's motion, a further sum of £00 was voted for the Trcntham footpath. • making a total voted to dato of £250 for this work-. On the samo member's motion the l'ublic Trustee, is In bo notified to remove obstructing buildings, fences, etc., from the roadway within seven days, or tho board will do so at his exoense. These encroachment:; are in the vicinity of the Trcntham Hotel, and prevent the work being proceeded with. Commissioner M'Curdy tendered hearty good wish.es for the coming Christmas season to the chairman, on his own behalf, and on behalf of his brother commissioners. Tho chairman reciprocated cordially.
