RESULT,. /The Primo Minister, on being interviewed last evening, made tho.following brief statement regarding the result of tho by-election:— ■ "Our man put up a great fight, though he was not- successful in securing a majority. Kemembering that at tho last general election we were over two thousand votes behind, whereas we arc now only a little over two hundred behind, there is no reason to be despondent. On tho contrary, tho figures snow that tho old so-called Liberal Party js defunct, and that public opinion has veered round in a way which must be satisfactory to every supporter of the Government and every member of tho Reform Party. Tho position is now quite clear. It is a question now between moderate Liberalism and the supporters of law and order on one side, and on the other Social Democracy, which, being interpreted, means Ked Fcd-ism and syndicalism. "To the- people of this country I would say: 'Choose yo whom ye will serve," or, rather, 'Choose ye whom yo will support.' and it is not at all difficult to predict what tho result will be." -.. ■
