A largo and enthusiastic meeting of Wostport citizens was held to-day, and formed a Defence Committee, with a view to the immediate opening of tho port, and pledging themselves to assist the authorities in maintaining law and order, and stamping out every species of intimidation^ Dunedin, December 16. At a meeting last night the Port Chalmers shipwrights declared tho strike off. They will resume work on Thursday. COAL FOR DAIRY CO. (By Teleeraph.—Press Association.) Hamilton, December 16. The chairman of ono of tho Waikato dairy companies visited Huntly yesterday to ascertain whether it was possible to obtain coal for his company's factory from tho Huntly Brick Company's seam. The visitor was referred to the executive of the Miners' Union, which stated that tiierc was no objection to this being done, as the union had no desiro to"seo tho farmers injured or put to loss through tho strike.
