SPOILT BY RAIN. (By Telegraph.—Precs Association.) Christcliurcii, December 16. The Anniversary Day programme, was spoilt by wot weather, cricket ami oilier .fixtures being abandoned. It showed siirns of clearing at noon. .A general holiday is being observed.' TIMARU CELEBRATIONS. (By Telegraph'.—Press Association.) Timaru, December 16. Threatening weather reduced the attendances at outdoor fixtures to-day, but the rain held off till the evening, except near .the hills, Oeraldino having ;i wet day. At Timaru a military tournament on the show grounds was held bv the Rth Mounted Regiment, in aid nf the fund to send competitors to the Auckland tournament, and nassed o!f well. The competitors came frcm all tho district centres. Tho Galetlonian Society held successful sports, which were, however, nnrre.d by a mishap in a cyclo .race, in which five men came down, one breaking his shoiddcr-bkidc and another ■being temporarily stunned. Sunday school picnics took many hundreds of children., into the country by trains, and all had a good, time, except a lar<ro Methodist party at Cave, where rain fell heavily in tho afternoon.
