CITY CRICKET.

BOWLERS' DAY; FENTON AND SAUNDERS IN FORM.. NEW ROUND BECUN. BLACKLOCK IN SCORING VEIN. Saturday was another day of small totals at the Basin Reserve. In most cases the individual scores were small, too. D. Naughton topped the list with Gl, and thus put ono moro notch in his season's record for consistently good scoring. The Central skipper, C." Hickson, went in .earlier than usual, and hit up a lively 47. It was high time that Hickson desisted from putting himself Jn about ninth, as he used to do, much' to his own detriment. J. Fanning, the Victoria Collego captain, broke, a rather long period of unprolilic batting by smacking up 45 (top score for the side), chiefly in fours and threes. The most notable thing is that East A appear to bo well on tho road to another good thrashing. This timo it is Victoria College which is troubling them. College went to the crease first, and started very badly—tho first five batsmen made only 20 runs. Tho tide turned when Atmore, Fenton, Fanning, and M'lntosh set up a series of fine partnerships and the score was carried to 198. East A's chances still looked good, but they failed badly to stem tho attack of M'lntosh and Fenton. The latter especially piayed great havoc with their wickets. At the closo of tho day East A had lost six wickets for 48 Jims. The East B-C'entral match looks a certainty for Central. The day saw some good batting averages fall with a Jieavy thud: Baker's, for instance fumbled from 86 to 50.

On the other hand, somo of tho matches were characterised by excellent bowling. Ponton (Victoria College) bagged sis wickets for 10 runs. His third, fourth, and fifth overs wdro maidens, aaid with the third ball of each he took a wicket. Saunders (Central) put a lot of energy into his trundling, and captured seven wickets for 40 runs. The e.s-Australian was in lino form.

The North-Hutt game was opened at tlio Hutt I'ecrcation Ground, and provided some very fair batting by tho North eleven, who put up 184 for nino wickets. To this total Quinn contributed a respectable 56, whilo Wilson knocked up 42, bcr.th batting very freely. Quinn's score included two sixes and three fours, while .Wilson hit two sixes and four fours. Ho -had remarkable good fortune in not bein&'. caught out in tho early stage of his innings, as ho gavo a very easy catch. Hutt were very slow in putting up thvsir 102 runs. Rodgcrs batted carefully, for his 20, but Isherwood freely used liis bat for a total of 24.

■ A touching reminder, of a sad event was tho wearing of blaeiVv arm-bands by all players in memory ra' the late Mr. C. M. Gore, once a familiar figure in Wellington crickef. EAST B £ CENTAL.
