Mr. Stuart, spokesman of the postmen's deputation, told tho PostmasterGeneral (Mr. Samuel) that the men feared the Government was mocking them. ' ~."!' Ho construed Mr. Samuel's threat not to reinstate strikers as a threat of actual starvation .in the event of defeat. Even Mr. Murphy (Chairman of the Dublin Tramways Company), of Dublin, was willing' to reinstate the workers if they returned' under his terms, but Mr. Samuel was not. Representatives of tho Postmen s tional Joint Committee moot on Tuesday to consider Mr. Samuel's reply. STRIKE AT LEEDS. London, December 13. Tho tramwaymen at Leeds have joined the strikers. The city is plunged in darkness, except for a few electric lights. THE RIGHT TO FEDERATE. (Rec. December 14, 5.5 p.m.) New York, December 13. Mr. Samuel Gompers, president of tho American Federation of Labour, in addressing the National Civic Federation, pointed out thftt the employers at tho Pennsylvania coal mines were ondeavouring to suppress trade unionism by means of tho Sherman Anti-Trust Act. Labour organisations had been allowed to exist untouched throughout tho United States, . yet under tho Sherman Law coalition was denied them. Labour bodies really only existed on the Government's sufferance for political purposes.
