Captain Scott and his party took place yesterday at Tort Chalmers. Owing to heavy tain there was only a small attendance, lno cairn will occupy a commanding site on the hills overlooking Port Chalmers, and will he a conspicuous object, abto to ho viewed from nearly all parts of the town, and also from ships entering th» harbour. When complete it.will reach a height of 30ft. Captain Scott va«"a member of Hie English Constitution of Freemasons, ami the Port Chalmers Council asked the District Grand Lodge of Oiago and Southland to carry out the laying of the stone. Members' of other constitutions were also present. The ceremony was porGraham, assisted by other officers of the District Grand Lodge,
