Ward was-'received-yesterday by 11 r. i : \ W.-HnvbiUlo of the death of his brother, Mr."Walter llaybittle, at Collineville, in Oklahoma, in the United States. .Mr. Hayliittk's death will ha regretted by a wide circle of former friends in Wellington, where he was well known and highly esteemed in musical and theatrical circles in bygone- days. The deceased gentleman made his mark as a public singer and reciter, and gave his services to tho public generously. He will 1)0 remembered as Strcphon in "lolantho" in the days of the old Amateur Operatic Company, and the Pirate King in the "Pirates of Penzance," Somo fourteen years ago ho joined Mr. George Eignold's company in Sydney, and thence onwards to the time of his death he was connected with tho professional stage. Five years ago ho left for America,' and engaged in dramatic work there. His death came as a shock to his relatives, as his last letters announced all well, and were written very cheerfully. The-late Mr. llaybittle, who was a native of this city, leaves a wife and two children, at present residing in Wellington.

Mr. Silas Wall, a well-known member of His Majesty's veterans, and onco a familiar figure at many New Zealand llitlo'Association .meetings, is at present precariously ill in the "Wauganui Hospital. Mr. W. L. Quigley, of tjie staff of tho Wauganui branch of the National Bank, who has been transferred. to Hastings, was entertained on Friday evening by the Wauganui Boxing Association, and was tho recipient of several farewell gifts. A Press Association telegram records the death of Mrs. Leo Manoy, of llotucka, formerly Miss Newman, of Wellington, an accomplished singer. The death occurred at Island Bay on Friday night of Mr. John Richard itanderson, who was born at Burnley, in Lancashire, in 1846.• Tho lato Mr. Itanderson was the son of the Rev. John Rauderson, Methodist minister of Burnley. Closely identified with tho Methodist Church at Island Bay since it was first established, ho took a keen interest in all that pertained to that body, and was frequently a member of the Wesleyan Conference. His sympathies were'attracted to tho Church Extension movement, and ho was always an active worker in that cause. In 18T0, at. the age of twenty-four, Mr. Sanderson arrived with his brother in Auckland, He camo to Wellington in connection with the Trade Auxiliary and Mercantile Gazette, and, after a few years removed to Cbristehurch. He was one of the, originators and promoters of a very important work, which •embraced nearly tile whole of the 'Dominion, "Tlie Encyclopaedia of New Zealand," which is still regarded as a standard work. Latterly, lie was a member of the firm of Itanderson and Palmer's pictorial and advertising agency. • His wife died just three months ago. His surviving family are the Rev. A'. C. Rauderson, M.A., Presbyterian

Croawell, who has been absent from Wellington For the past 20 years on Customs service in China, and who is a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Croawcll (late of Westnorl) is at present on ■a'visit to Wellington. Constable Frederick llealey, a well- ] known member of the Wangamii Poji-™ Force, died in His Wanganiii Hospital on Saturday. As an old Army man> lie joined tlio New Zealand Armed Constabulary in 1878, transferring to the civil police ten years later. Ho was stationed for several years in the Wellington and Mnnavatu districts, and, three years ago, was appointed to the charge of St, John's, one- of tire- Wa* nganui suburban stations. Ho was (says our Wanganui correspondent) ft verv efficient and tactful officer, and his death will be greatly regretted by bis comrades olid tho Wangsiirni public.
