THE ROAD CONNECTION. The following return was laid bofora the Legislative Council on flic, application ol the Hon. John Duthie, who asked: "That there be laid before tho Council a return s-r-tliiig out the following particulars in respect to the road which is being constructed between Wai» innriuo and Toknaiiu: (l)-Tho total mileage, the mileage of the part completed and lit for 'wheel traffic, tho length of unmetr.Hed or otherwise uncompleted, formation, and what distance remains on which no work Im yet been done: and ('J) the probable date bywhich the road between these two centres will he til. in summer for wheel traffic, throughout."
The return showed: (a) Tho tola! mile, ago (approximately) •!() miles; (h) mileage of the part completed and liL for wheel traHie? l'Voni Waiiiiiirino end Urn roiid has hern formed Id dray-]o"id width for .') miles fi4 chains, or to tho crossing of tho Msugahiiia Stream. From the Tokaauu end the road has been formed to dray-road width to the crossing of tile Waiiganui River, a distance of 2-1 miles (approximately), Between the Wanganui River _ and this Mangahuia Stream about 7 miles of tho road ivns formed some considerable time ago, hut is now much daimigcrl. The remaining five miles is practically untouched.

Tho estimated cost of completing formation and necessary bridging is approximately £3000. The probainV date by which'tile road will bo available for vehicular ivailii) is dependent iijmn tho amount of money voted by I'arJiamciit for tho work.
