INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.

MONTHLY MEETING. •At Tuesday's monthly meeting of the executive of the Wellington Provincial Industrial Association, Mr. 0. B. Norwood presided. A satisfactory credit balance was reported. In connection with the competitive essays on New Zealand industries, for which prizes had been provided by the association, the secretary of the New Zealand Competitions Society forwarded the manuscript of competitors, together with the judgo's comments thereon. It was resolved to make an effort to have the winning essays published in tho press. Tho secretary (Mr. H. F. Allen) reported that he had forwarded to the Prime Minister (tho Hon. W. F. Masscy) the resolution of the conference of industrial associations on tho question of afforestation. The Prime Minister had replied, stating that tho Government fully recognised the importance of preserving the forests, and from the latter tho association could be sure that the matter would receive every attention at tho hands of the Government. A brief discussion took place on tho Question of the Panama Exhibition, during tho course of which the chairman said that he was very glad the Government had taken up the question of Dominion representation, and be suggested that the associations should combine in supporting the action of tho Government. Mr. T. Hallingor did not think the exhibition would be sis useful to manufacturer.'; as to pastoralisls. As far as manufacturers were concerned, it. would never pay to exhibit in San Francisco.. He mentioned that a .market for dairy produce had already been opened on the Pacific Coast of America, and tho lloana had recently taken away a larco cargo, imt tho Press did not make half enough of these things. Tho discussion did not result, in any definite notion. It was d-'rided that the association should not meet in the month of January.
