CALL TO HOTEL WORKERS.
IGNORED HERE. THE LOCAL STAND APPROVED. .Reference to the striko was made at list night's half-yearly meeting of the Wellington Hotel Workers' "Union, when ,ho secretary (Mr. E. J. Carey) submitted a lengthy report on behalf of the committee of management and the executive of the union. This report covered: (1) fho strike situation ill Auckland; (2) the action of the Auckland Hotel Workers' Union in going on strike; and (3) the telegraphic demand , of the Federation of Labour officials • that the "Wellington Hotel Workers' i Union should .join the general strike. It stated that tho secretary (Mr. Carey) and tho officers of tho Wellington "Union had used every effort to prevent tho Auckland union from going on strike, and that tho efforts of'this union had been backod up by tho Christchurch and ' Duuedin Unions. Regret was expressed in tli© report that thoso efforts bad been" 'unavailing. In connection with the demand from the Federation
- 'of Labour to join tho general strike, -the report stated that tho committee I had unanimously decided to ignore tho I call. • , The report as a whole was adopted, ami the executive and the committee woro congratulated on tho stand taken. A letter was received from tho 'Trades' Council, asking the union to contribute towards a fund to relievo the distress caused by tho striko to .tho wives and children of workers.- Tho sum of £10 was voted by the meeting to the fund, on the express understanding that the money should be exclusively devoted towards the promotion of Christmas clicer for tho children of the strikers. COUNTY COUNCIL'S APPRECIATION. At a meeting of tho Kawhia County Council hold last week, Councillor Babbago moved that the council express its satisfaction at the stand taken by tho Prime Minister and tho Hon. A. li' Hcrdman in connection with tho present industrial trouble, which, bo stated. had been a direct 'hit at the farmers. Flo wished the council to assure .the poverniiient of the hearty support of every Keillor in the district. After discussion tho motion was carried unanimously.
