STRIKE PICKETS OUTWITTED.

A statement that tho strikers intended reluming to work shortly, failing a satisfactory assurance from the Federation was denied by tho secretary of tho old union. Mr. S. G. Kirkcr, manager of tho Golden BayShipping Company, to-day received the following letter: "Kirkcr, we aro well awaro that you arc the man who is writing to the papers, pricking up tho union, and causing trouble at the port. You will have your day shortly. I will drop M'Arthur a note il you don't keep your mouth shut." Mr. M'Arthur is tho managing director of tho company. The handwriting indicates that several people had a hand in tho concoction of tho letter. Tlio strikers at the Puponga coal mine are very sore over tho removal of coal stored iu tho bins by the scow Pearl Kaspar. The skipper outwitted „tho pickets by slipping in at 2 a.m., when only the policeman was visible, tho pickets having gone to bed about an hour previously, satisfied that no attempt would ho mado to tako tlio coal. The Pearl Kaspar's crcw loaded tho seventy tons available, and was ready to sail when tho strikers made their appearance at tlio wharf, and forcibly expressed their indignation.
