Tho Distress Committee is receiving every assistance from tlio public in supplying the wants of those out, of work "as tho result of the strike. _ Tlio committee states that it is now relieving over 3000 people. In regard to the Fullorton caso, in, which a striker was refused groceries by tho Distress Committee, the secretary explained to a reporter yesterday that it is quite- correct that tho man was refused 10s. worth of groceries, hut this lino of action was taken onlv becauso Fnlfoi'ton owns a grocer's shop, and it, seemed to the committee that it would be supplying what ho already had at the expense of others moro in want than ho was. "Had Fulk-rton applied for meat supplies," stated tho secretary, "'it would have been different. Wo aro here to supply only those who are in distress as tlio result of tlie_ strike. If any man —unionist or not —is on it does not necessarily mean that ho is going to be supplied with food. Ho nnist bo in distress before wo help him." Mr. Gray wont, on to point to a easi* in which tno committee had given relief, but i;ad afterwards found that the person assisted was not ireal!y_ in distress. This person was immediately informed that, if tho. money advanced was not returned, proceedings would.bo taken. Mr. Gray stated that ho wanted tills, point in ado clear. "Wc are not connected with any union," lie continued, "and wo are not here to obey tlio dictates of any tinioii. Wo are horo for tne public, and wo will continue in our work es long as the public wants us."
