The police authorities in tho city arrested a man named Georgo Francis on a charge of theft in connection with tho Customs charges. This is tho fifth arrest made. Francis will bo charged with having stolen tho sum of £22 os. from Messrs. J. H. Parker and Co., and will bo brought before the Court on Monday. PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS, tnyercargill, December 7. The Arbitration Court award in tho professional musicians' dispute 'has been filed. Tho weekly wage is fixed at £3 for six performances and one matinee, with overtime at the rate of 2s. 6d. per hour. Tho award applies to Invercargill and Oamaru, but tho Lyceum Hall Company (Invercargill) is not made a party as tho musicians employed are members of the local union, registered under the Act, and ha:l made an agreement. The Court 'held that no reason existed why effect should not bo given to the agreement, especially as tlio piobablo result of bringing them under tho award would bo to deprive sonio of them of work altogether.

CHARGE OF CRIMINAL ASSAULT. Marten, December 6. At Bulls, yesterday, before Justices of tho peace, Joseph Vance, on a charge of criminal assault, wa3 committed to tho Supremo Court at Palmerston for trial. Bail was allowed, accused in £200, and two sureties of £100 each. MT. COOK HERMITAGE. Titnai'u, December 6. Part of tho new .hermitage at Mt. Cook will bo ready for occupation by Christmas, and a good season is promised. Already moro people liavo booked than the old house would hold, but 50 bodrooms in the .now liouso will be available. FIRE IN A FOUNDRY. Invcrcarglll, December 7. A fire occurred late on Saturday night at Messrs. Donaldson and Walker's iron foundry, Clyde Street. Tho fire originated in the office, and spread to tho pattern store, in tho upper part of tho building. Tho estimate of the damage and the insurances aro not available. THE SHAW CASE. Christciiurch, December 7. The case of tho Official Assigneo in tho estate of Walter Shaw, formerly a Timaru solicitor, against tho Timaru Property Co.nnany, a claim to set aside a, contract of sale, concluded in tho Supremo Court to-day. Judgment was reserved.
