GENERAL STRIKE JOTTINGS.

Striker's Wife and Dose s? Poison. Cecilia Parkinson wa.s admitted to the ■Wellington Hospital at live minutes past eleven o'clock last night, suffering from a dose of poison, believed to bo self-administered. She i 3 tho wife of a waterside worker, who is on .strike, and who resides at 12 Cumberland Place, off Gbuzneo Street. The patient was reported by the Hospital authorities to Ps in a serious condition. Move by Tradss Council. A thoroughly representative meeting of unions was held at the Trades Hal!., Cuba, Street, to discuss the strike situation as it now stands, Mr. J. M'Keiizio presided. Tho crisis was fully reviewed by the meeting, and it was decided to set'up a committee of nine to draw up proposals to be submitted to a mass meeting of union representatives on Sunday, December 7, at 2.30 p.m. The committee was elected, a,ml subsequently hold a meeting, but had no communication for the Press.

No Strike of Shesrsrs. . Mr. M. Laracy, secretary of tho Shearers' Federation, stated yesterday that there was no likelihood of the shearers coming out or, strike. The levy struck recently on shearers and shed-hands was, ho said, being well responded to throughout New Zealand. interesting History. 'it is interesting to note _ that the strike leader, Holland, who is at present- in the Terrace Gaol on remand, stood against Mr. AY. M. Hughes at the Federal elections about four years ago, and on that occasion boasted that ho was out to defeat Mr. Hughes, and lob tho Liberal candidate win. The result of the election was that Mr. Hughes secured something like 13,000 votes, and Mr. Holland only about 000 votes. It will also be recollected that Jfr. Hughes was bitterly denounced by Mr. Peter Bowling, when the latter was touring this country, under the auspices of tho extreme element of the Labour movement. Mr. Hughes is still in Parliament, while Mr. Bowling, after being defeated for office in his union, is back at work, Strike Pay Not Forthcoming. From inquiries made among waterside workers on strike it; appears that tho only men who havo received strike pay in Wellington, are those belonging to'tho agitator class—that is those who have come from other parts of the Dominion to speak from the platform here, lb is understood that their remuneration is something like £5 weekly and expenses. For the ordinary out-of-work "class" strike pay is not forthcoming.. The latter are not altogether overlooked, however, and so long as single men are content to remain away from work they are allowed o-ineal tickets every two days, while married men outof. work are allowed to obtain 10s. worth of stores weekly.

Peter Eraser, tho strike leader, who was bound over to keep the peace last Friday, was released i'loin the Terrace Gaol last evening. The uuroties accepted in his ease .were: J. M'tlwiaith, grocer, Willis Street, and Geo. M. Elkins, Harbour Board employee, of Torv Street.
